The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is a global, non-profit organization established to promote the sustainable production and use of palm oil. Founded in 2004, the RSPO brings together stakeholders from across the palm oil supply chain—including growers, processors, traders, manufacturers, NGOs, and retailers—to set and implement environmental and social standards.
The RSPO’s mission is to reduce the negative impacts of palm oil cultivation by promoting transparency, biodiversity protection, fair labor conditions, and responsible land use.

Why Does RSPO Matter?
Palm oil is a critical raw material in the oleochemical and cosmetic industries. It serves as the base for surfactants, emulsifiers, emollients, and other functional ingredients. However, traditional palm oil cultivation has been linked to:
- Deforestation
- Loss of biodiversity
- Greenhouse gas emissions
- Human rights violations
RSPO certification aims to mitigate these impacts by enforcing rigorous standards. Certified members must adhere to strict environmental, ethical, and traceability criteria, verified through third-party audits.
BookChem’s Commitment to Sustainable Oleochemicals
At BookChem, we recognize our responsibility to contribute to a cleaner, safer, and more ethical global supply chain. That’s why we are proud to offer and promote RSPO-certified ingredients across our oleochemical and personal care product categories.

1. Ethical Sourcing
We actively work with RSPO-compliant suppliers and ensure that our palm-derived ingredients meet sustainability and traceability standards.
2. Responsible Formulation
Our product development team focuses on using certified and sustainable oleochemicals whenever palm oil derivatives are required—without compromising performance.
3. Transparency & Documentation
We provide clear RSPO Mass Balance or Segregated certification documentation for applicable ingredients, supporting our clients’ sustainability claims and regulatory compliance.
RSPO Certification Models at a Glance
There are four supply chain models under RSPO, each offering different levels of traceability:
- Identity Preserved (IP): Full traceability from a single certified source.
- Segregated (SG): Sourced from multiple certified sources, kept separate from non-certified palm oil.
- Mass Balance (MB): A mix of certified and non-certified sources, but with controlled volumes.
- Book & Claim (B&C): RSPO credits are purchased to support sustainable production, without physical traceability.
At BookChem, we work primarily with Mass Balance and Segregated RSPO-certified ingredients, offering a balance of sustainability and commercial feasibility.
Why Choose RSPO-Certified Ingredients?
- Reduce your environmental footprint
- Meet global sustainability goals (ESG, SDG, etc.)
